Usually there is this little symbol on makeup and it'll say something like 12m or 24m, which means it expires 12 or 24 months after you purchased it.Where is the expiration dates on makeup products and hair products?
More often than not there are not always expiration dates on those types of products.

However, the FDA requires that products, such as perfume, creams ans make up bought in Dept stores, pharmacy's etc. Have to have a shelf life of 5 years.

most big stores have a quite a fast turnover of products, so generally its not an issue. I wouldn't recommend keeping make up for too much loner than 2-3 years, cause as soon as you start to use the product it begins to get contaminated with bacteria.

I definitely would not keep make up from 1995, ewwww that's just wrong, it must stink........................
It depends on whether the package has had the seal broken or not. As a general rule, you should replace all eye make-up at least every three months (I only keep mine for a month and then replace it).

The best way to tell with unopened products is just to test the consistency. If it's a liquid then smooth some on your hand and see if there are any clumps or other inconsistencies. When in doubt, throw it out.
Most makeup items don't have them. Hair products sometimes have them along one side of the packaging.
