How do you sanitize makeup products?

Like, from a swap or if your friend gives you her makeup she never uses, how do you sanitize it without ruining it? and what do you sanitize it with? How do you sanitize makeup products?
First of all, you shouldn't swap certain products at all since they can't be properly sanitized. These include liquid products where the applicator goes back into the product after each use - such as mascara and lipgloss. DO NOT share these products with anyone as they can transmit bacteria or viruses.

To sanitise powder products such as blushes, eyeshadows, etc, simply wipe off the top layer of product with a tissue. You should also wipe down the packaging with an antibacterial spray or wipe of some kind. Bacteria thrive in moist conditions, not dry ones, so this is all you need to do for powder products.

For lipsticks, you should wipe off the top layer of lipstick and dip it in isopropyl alcohol to kill bacteria, then wipe off again. Isopropyl alcohol is very cheap and available from many pharmacies and electronics stores. (It can also be used to sanitize brushes).
